Gents, now more than ever, the home date is becoming a thing; and it's up to us to make sure the mood is just right. So to make sure you're set up for success, here’s our tips to help you make date night at home a memorable one.

SEND A PRE-DATE TEXT

A playful text before a date is a great way to get things going. Not only is it an easy way to get her thinking about you before the night begins, but it's also an opportunity to get some intel on her interests. Learn what she likes to eat, what her favorite drink is, what types of movies she's in to, all great things to know to help you plan the night. Don't forget to let her know you’re excited to see her. It will reassure her of your interest, and hopefully, will get her just as excited to see you.

CLEAN THE PLACE UP

A sink full of dishes, an overflowing trash can, dirty laundry on the floor, all major turn offs for some women. Your place is a reflection of you. Show her you not only take care of yourself, but your place as well. Keep your space free of distractions so you can focus on what’s important, each other. And gents, don’t forget the bathroom. Wipe that seat!

ADD A LITTLE MOOD LIGHTING

You know the feeling you get when you walk into a store, and the fluorescent lights starting burning your retina’s? Yeah let’s not have that going on at your place. Soft, warm, indirect lighting is easy on the eyes and helps to cast everything in a comforting glow. Edison bulbs make for amazing ambient lighting, and will help show off you’re interior decorating skills. Candle light works just as well, but we'll touch on that in a moment.

DRESS THE PART

It sounds lame, but don’t forget to slip into something more comfortable. Now a Hugh Hefner robe may be pushing it, but jeans and a stylish tee are perfectly fine for just hanging out around the house. By giving off a more casual feel, both of you  will immediately feel more relaxed. Don't sacrifice style for comfort here, you still want to look good; but don't be afraid to keep it a little more casual.

USE THOSE BARTENDER SKILLS

Its always a good idea to have a few bottles of wine on hand. A Riesling, a Chardonnay, a Cab, and a Pinot. Now we’re not going to get into specifics on wine, that could be a whole discussion on its own. To get you through here’s what you need to know. Riesling is sweet, Chardonnay is dry, Cabernet has an herbal flavor, and Pinot is fruity. Spend a few bucks here if you can. No need to spring for a $100 bottle of wine, but the difference between a $6 wine and a $14 wine is pretty significant. The extra effort will be appreciated.  If she’s not a wine drinker learn her favorite drink beforehand. A quick text before the date asking what her favorite drink is shows her not only are you thinking of her, but ensures you'll have exactly what she wants on hand.

LIGHT SOME CANDLES

Yes, lighting a candle may seem cliché; however, there’s no denying the benefits of having one lit. First off, the candle light plays on the ambient lighting theme. Also, having a nice scent in the air never hurts. Vanilla, Clean Linen, Bourbon, Leather, all amazing scents to have on hand. If you’re unsure what she’ll like, play it safe and go Vanilla.

TURN ON SOME BACKGROUND NOISE

Background noise helps to fill any awkward silence that may occur during the night.  The key here is to go light, and make it something you can relax with. If you go with music make sure you’re prepared. If you don’t know where to start, Chill Out Radio on Pandora is pretty clutch. The key is to keep the relaxing vibe going. Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” is probably a little overboard. Slayer’s “Raining Blood,” probably a mood killer. Keep it calm, relaxed, and at a reasonable level. Again, it’s just background noise. The same goes for movies. Don’t pick an amazing movie she’s not going to want to turn away from. Remember the focus should be on each other, keep it light and keep the conversation going.

HAVE A PLAN

Making dinner together is a great way to be active on a home date. Playing a game is another great way to keep things moving. Darts, Wii bowling, pool, really it doesn't matter. Whatever you have available that gets you off the couch and engaging with each other. Introduce a little wager for a little excitement; winner gets a 10-minute massage, loser gets a 5-minute massage. Either way, you’re not really losing. Its also a good idea to have a few movie choices in mind if you're going that route. Saving time endlessly scrolling for something to watch will be much appreciated. Most importantly, remember it’s just a date, the object is to have fun.

At the end of the day just relax and be yourself. Any effort you put forth will be appreciated provided you’re with the right woman. Women like a confident, but not an arrogant man; so have a plan, be confident, make her comfortable, and have fun!  Keep things moving and keep her interested, and the next date will be a guarantee.
